Discover more from Jane Foster - Illustration Matters
I spent much of the past few days photographing products that I designed many years ago. I used to try to meticulously keep a spare extra of everything I’ve ever designed but have recently realised that this is becoming impossible as I’ve designed so many items and haven't the space! I’ve also come to realise that it’s ok to let go of these items if I have the memories of them as photos. (Otherwise I’ll need to buy a big shed!)
*This reminds me of a story from my mum - she once had a house full of pottery my sister and I had made when we were at school. When she downsized to a smaller property, she couldn’t take everything with her so she lined up all our pottery and took a photo of them. She then placed many of these items in the garden for the next owners to have! (*Don’t worry, she asked us if we wanted them and at the time, we both said NO!)
I think I’ve designed around 40 mugs and countless glass tumblers over the years - many of these were a collaboration with my pottery pal Keith Brymer Jones. He created the shapes of these (with my approval) and I licensed my illustrations to him.
Below are some of my favourites.
I loved the Zodiac mug collection above - I tried to be a bit brave by keeping all the illustrations black and white and only using colours for the backgrounds. Think it worked as these were popular.
Below are some of the many glass tumblers I designed with Keith, again I kept the illustrations black and white.
Below are some of my animal tumblers where the characters were taken from my screen prints.
I loved the little egg cups - we’ve each got a favourite.
*I also re-discovered some of the hand decorated vases I created back in 2020.
I think most of the items featured here have now sold but there might be a few left.
You can find my these in my Homewares section here.
Do leave me a comment if you like my work and please share.
Thank you x

Hi Eli,
Thank you!
I used to be a sentimental hoarder - I’m becoming a sentimental hoarder of photos instead! 🤣
